Heikki Koistinen
Carpe Diem
Classic rock/Angsty Prog
"The tension and resolve between the verses and soaring chorus achieves exactly what it sets out to. An angsty warning to live your life and not let time pass you by."
The Artist
Heikki is a regular on the Manx open mic scene. Usually performing as a solo artist Heikki in the process of putting a full band together. A metal head, yes. A muso that fuses lots of genres together to get the desired effect, yes. The most impressive goatee seen in Quidsinn? Also yes!.
The Song
Tick tock it's rock o'clock. Carpe Diem opens up with a dissonant ringing of chords scrapping against a bumbling bassline that keeps us trudging forward. Heikki's vocals enter brooding on the passage of time. Warnings eminate out cautioning us to seize what time we have. A soaring chorus then pulls us from the mire towards a brighter resolve. Crushing back to the familiar sting of the dissonant verse chords, Heikki's vocals harsher up to hammer the message home. Rise! The second angsty waltz with the chorus is punctuated with a beautifully resolved middle 8. Back to the front with the hazy verse once more. Rinse and repeat the above till we get to a cycle of choruses that lead to a short solo passage over those deliciously evil dissonant verse chords. A phat bass then pushes us back to the mercy of that selfish little tick tock rock clock.
The Verdict
Carpe Diem is a prog flavoured driving tune. The tension and resolve between the verses and soaring chorus achieves exactly what it sets out to. An angsty warning to live your life and not let time pass you by.
If You Like... If you dig the sound of a prog flavoured, grunge attenuated, classic rock voiced banger then come get your lobes around Heikki's new EP "30 years in the making". Carpe Diem is the highlight for me buy listen and decide for yourself.
