Jon Lightfield - This Christmas Day

This Christmas Day

Seasonal/Ballad

"Add this to your Xmas playlist and play it about an hour after you've finished eating your weight in turkey and veggies"

The artist

We have had the pleasure of reviewing Jon before but if you missed it firstly, go find the review! Secondly here's what we know John Lightfield spent his formative years in Oslo, Norway before moving to the Isle of Man.  A self-confessed ‘’late bloomer’’ when it comes to writing and performing, this hasn’t held him back from writing material which feels refreshing and uplifting without cow towing to modern trends.

The song

The raking of a pretty chord rings in this festive season followed by a bellowing piano melody adding brightness and beauty to the almost cliché (in the best way) progression. A verse with delicate vocals paint a portrait of a lonesome house on Christmas day. Epic harmonies ensue through the pretty chorus embellishing the sentiment "I can't wait for christ". This then slips into a state of suspension coupled with a gorgeous bass lick. A further lonely verse details the already bold image of a quiet festive season. The beautiful chorus comes back around once again. Bells and synths flesh out a fantastic middle 8 that brings us to a further verse that takes place at the end of Christmas day. Asking the question where are you going on This Christmas Day the familiar chorus come back around to full effect.

The verdict

This Christmas Day takes on a more sombre tone than most festive tunes but it does it so brilliantly. The instrumentation is fantastic and the lyrics are so well written. Add this to your Xmas playlist and play it about an hour after you've finished eating your weight in turkey and veggies.
